Even in a post-COVID world, the food supply chains will remain spread over continents, however with renewed emphasis on traceability and safety. Focus will be on faster decision making, thus reducing spoilage in the dynamic supply-chains of perishable food commodities. Fortunately, recent developments in ambient mass spectrometry, vibrational spectroscopy and artificial intelligence promises to determine food authenticity and safety in real time. The webinar will present ambient mass spectrometry workflows for species and geographical origin authentication of seafood in real time. Also, potential of vibrational spectroscopy in rapid determination of food authenticity and microbiological safety will be discussed.

Niladri 2About the speaker: Dr. Niladri Chatterjee is a scientist at ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Cochin. His research interest include advanced mass spectrometry techniques, analytical method development for environmental contaminants, foodomics and chemometrics. During his postdoctoral stint in Queens University Belfast, he worked on ambient mass spectrometry for real-time detection of seafood fraud. Dr. Chatterjee was the recipient of SERB early career research award and AOAC India young scientist award.
